For the fifth time, the Financial Education Council (REF) honored the most valuable projects developing Poles' financial knowledge and competencies. Among the recipients of the 2024 Financial Education Council (REF) distinction were two nationwide initiatives in which the Warsaw Institute of Banking is involved: the Year of Economic Education 2024 and the EduAkcja project. The awards ceremony took place at the Ministry of Finance, and the awards were presented by REF Chairman Professor Dariusz Adamski to representatives of the institutions involved in the initiatives, as well as to Senators.
Year of Economic Education 2025 with special distinction
The European Economic and Social Fund (REF) awarded a special distinction to the Year of Economic Education 2024 (REE 2024) initiative. This unique initiative, established by a resolution of the Senate of the Republic of Poland, is supported by six organizations: the Warsaw Institute of Banking, the WSE Foundation, the Youth Entrepreneurship Foundation, the Czepczyński Family Foundation, the Polish Economic Society, and the Polish Scouting Association. The honorary and program committees include the Speakers of the Sejm and Senate, ministers, representatives of key public institutions, academia, and industry and business organizations. 2024 was a year of exceptional five centenaries – those of Władysław Grabski's economic reforms, the creation of the Polish złoty, the establishment of the Bank of Poland, the establishment of the National Economy Bank, and the publication of Janusz Korczak's book "The Bankruptcy of Little Jack.".
The Year of Economic Education is a special way of recognizing the efforts made over the last 100 years by thousands of people and institutions involved in popularizing and transmitting this important knowledge, as well as a clear support for initiatives currently undertaken by both public institutions and non-governmental organizations.
Over the course of 12 months, as part of the REE 2024 celebrations, over 500 different initiatives and events were implemented across the country, with over 750,000 people participating, including over 100,000 students participating in lessons and workshops on economic education. The REE 2024 concept was presented at over 150 events: congresses, conferences, and seminars. Over 20 analyses and studies were conducted, including those concerning the level of economic knowledge and education among Poles. Activities were implemented not only at the national level but also at the regional and local levels, including over 500 educational projects, including 16 regional "Educational Impulses" conferences organized with the support of the Financial Education Fund, 56 local and regional exhibitions, and numerous projects organized by local governments, schools, and libraries. Thanks to these extensive activities and media outreach, approximately 8 million Poles learned about the REE 2024 initiative.
EduAkcja – first adventures with investing
EduAkcja is a nationwide educational project launched in 2021, aimed at promoting economic knowledge and the principles of capital market operation among primary and secondary school students. The project includes online lessons, meetings with practitioners, and competitions. Nearly 80,000 participants have participated in its four editions to date.
The project is based on collaboration with volunteers – financial market practitioners who share their knowledge and experience. Project partners include the Warsaw Stock Exchange Foundation, CFA Society Poland, the Warsaw Institute of Banking Foundation, Franklin Templeton Investments, and the Pension Fund Chamber of Commerce.
REF has recognized exceptional educational projects for the fifth time
Since 2021, the Financial Education Council has been annually awarding initiatives that make a significant contribution to building financial literacy in society. These awards recognize effective and engaging educational activities for various social groups, especially children and young people.
For 2024, awards were also given to the initiatives "Zadbana Przyszłość" and "Tropem Ekonomixa - economic education for cubs, scouts, older scouts and hikers".„
