In 2017, 136,000 stolen and lost identity documents were reported. In the fourth quarter of 2017 alone, the DZ System database grew by exactly 32,866 documents, and at the end of December 2017, it contained 1,827,020 restricted documents due to loss or theft. During the same period, 1,592 loan fraud attempts were made, totaling PLN 106.7 million.
„"There is a growing awareness of the need to protect one's identity and the tools available to protect against the use of our data for criminal purposes. Data on the cancellation of lost identity documents shows how much has been achieved – currently, more than three times as many documents are being cancelled as 10 years ago. We are also working very intensively in other areas. The banking sector is conducting a number of programs in the areas of economic education and cybersecurity," said Krzysztof Pietraszkiewicz, President of the Polish Bank Association.
„"Today we are launching the 12th phase of the RESTRICTED DOCUMENTS System Information Campaign. Over the past 10 years of this project, a total of nearly 75,000 loan fraud attempts have been blocked, totaling over PLN 4 billion. The Polish Bank Association, together with the Police and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration, recommends that any loss of identity documents should be reported to the bank as soon as possible, even if the documents are lost by someone who does not and has never used banking services. Cancellation in the CANcelled Documents System can be done at your bank or at any bank that accepts cancellations from non-customers. This can be done in person at a bank branch. Some banks also accept cancellations by phone, calling +48 828 828 828 (only from their own customers, after remote identity verification). You can also use your account at www.bik.pl (only if you previously had an account there for the lost document).
